BUNDANOON A SEA OF BLUE

On Saturday Feb 05, the Bundanoon village centre was a sea of blue as members turned out to help with the Bundanoon Cares initiative to provide much-needed goods for people in the flood ravaged Queensland town of Dalby.

Lions provided much-needed expertise in sorting donations and organising loading of the truck, as well as providing sustenance for donors and volunteers.

Many thanks to all those who chipped in to assist. It really was a great turnout and showed our Club - and Lions - in the best possible light.

LES JOHNSON NOMINATED FOR SHIRE'S CITIZEN OF THE YEAR AWARD

Our club president Les was recently among the nominees for the Wingecarribee Shire Council Australia Day Citizen of the Year award.

Recognised for more than 30 years' community service through both Bowral and Bundanoon Lions Clubs, among other organisations, Les received his certificate from Australia Day Ambassador, Darren COGGAN, at the Shire Council's Australa Day ceremony at the Old Berrima Courthouse.

AMBULANCE STATION PROJECT ANNOUNCED

At the recent 20th Anniversary dinner, following a decision not to proceed with support for a bicycle track, president Les announced a major new Club project: to secure a long-awaited ambulance station for Bundanoon.

Following is the partial text of a media release from the Club:

Lions Club president, Les Johnson, announced the project at the Club’s recent 20th anniversary dinner. “While we have first response provided by the local fire brigade, it is hardly a satisfactory or sustainable arrangement,” said Les. He added, “It can still take up to an hour for an ambulance to arrive. With a growing – and ageing – population in the area, stretching from Moss Vale to Canyonleigh, this is just unacceptable.

“We are committed to the greater community and recently re-carpeted the Bundanoon pre-school at a cost of more than $4,000. We then considered several possible projects, but concluded that the greatest community need is for the ambulance station – and sooner, rather than later” explained Les.

He added that Kangaroo Valley Lions had achieved a similar feat in their village, with the construction of a combined ambulance station and community centre.

First step in the project will be a public meeting in Bundanoon during January to gauge the level of community support, not only from Bundanoon, but also from surrounding villages.

The Bundanoon Community Association will also play a significant role in the project, while the Bundanoon RSL sub-branch has already indicated its support. At a meeting on December 7, the sub-branch carried a motion pledging a financial contribution to the project.
